Curtis Retained as Conflicts Counsel to Leading Upstream Master Limited Partnership, Breitburn Energy Partners LP
Curtis has been retained as conflicts counsel to the Debtors and Debtors-in-Possession in the Chapter 11 cases of Breitburn Energy Partners LP (“Breitburn”), a publicly traded independent oil and gas master limited partnership focused on the acquisition, development, and production of oil and gas properties throughout the United States. Breitburn’s producing and non-producing crude oil and natural gas reserves are located in the following seven producing areas: Midwest, Ark-La-Tex, the Permian Basin, the Mid-Continent, the Rockies, Southeast, and California.
On May 15, 2016, Breitburn and 21 of its affiliates voluntarily filed petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to facilitate the restructuring of its balance sheet. Breitburn’s Chapter 11 cases are pending in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York before Judge Stuart M. Bernstein. Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP is acting as lead counsel for Breitburn. In its role as conflicts counsel, Curtis is advising Breitburn on matters where Weil cannot assist the Debtors due to the existence of an actual or potential conflict.
The Curtis team working on this engagement includes Partner Steven J. Reisman, Counsel Cindi M. Giglio and Associate Peter J. Buenger from the Restructuring and Insolvency Department.
Curtis has developed a national reputation as the leading law firm in conflicts counsel engagements in large and complex Chapter 11 restructurings on both the debtor and creditors’ committee sides.
