Curtis Promotes Fernando Tupa to Partner in Buenos Aires

Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP is pleased to announce the promotion of Fernando Tupa from counsel to partner in the firm’s Buenos Aires-based affiliate.

A member of Curtis’ International Arbitration group, Mr. Tupa has represented Latin American, Asian and African clients in investor-state arbitrations, international commercial arbitrations and other international litigation matters. His experience encompasses numerous disputes under the ICSID, ICC and UNCITRAL rules, including many of the largest investment and commercial arbitration disputes in recent years. Of particular note, he was a member of the Curtis team that succeeded last March in annulling a $1.4 billion ICSID award concerning the nationalization of ExxonMobil’s interest in the Cerro Negro project in Venezuela, the largest annulment in ICSID history.

"For several years, Fernando was a key member of our International Arbitration group in New York. We are confident he will continue to distinguish himself from Buenos Aires in this growing area of international practice," said Curtis Chairman George Kahale III.

Mr. Tupa began his career at Curtis’ New York headquarters in 2007 and relocated in 2015 to the firm’s Buenos Aires affiliate, where he was promoted to counsel. He received his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires Law School, with honors, and also holds an LL.M. in Business Law from the University of San Andrés and an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New York and Argentina.
