Christian Leathley Appointed to Chair AIA International Investment Arbitration Workgroup

 
New York, November 16, 2009 – Curtis International Arbitration counsel Christian Leathley has been selected to chair the Association for International Arbitration’s (AIA) recently established International Investment Arbitration working group. Leathley’s term as working group chair will extend through October of 2011.

The new group is tasked with advising on the AIA’s education and training initiatives, proposing conferences and special events, preparing documents and studies for various forums and commenting on regional and international legal proposals. This includes providing input for AIA’s 2010 annual conference, which is scheduled to take place on October 22 in Brussels, Belgium.

The Association for International Arbitration is a global non-profit organization that aims to facilitate arbitration, mediation and general forms of dispute resolution by providing information, training and educational activities to expand the promotion of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution worldwide. Leathley’s practice is based out of the firm’s New York office and focuses on international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and international litigation. He represents clients as counsel before international tribunals in ad hoc and institutional proceedings and has particular experience in Latin American disputes. Leathley is also a frequent lecturer on international arbitration and has been recognized in Chambers Latin America as one of the region’s “up and coming” international arbitration practitioners.
