Mr. Laurer is a partner in the Investment Management Group. He focuses his practice on all legal aspects of professional investment management, with a particular understanding of the international arena. He has extensive experience in screening, structuring and forming private investment funds in the United States, Europe and all major international financial centers.

Mr. Laurer regularly advises clients on their investment activities and fund-raising efforts in the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and other parts of the world. His expertise includes knowledge of the major international securities and regulatory regimes applicable to investment managers and fund sponsors, including U.S. Investment Adviser and Investment Company regulation and the EU Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD).

Mr. Laurer works on all aspects of a fund's and/or management company's life cycle beginning with formation and fundraising, continuing with investments and other forms of deployment of capital, up to disposition, reorganization or restructuring of the fund, its assets, or the management company. Funds include Private Equity Funds, Hedge Funds, Venture Capital Funds, Real Estate Funds, Commodity Pools and other types of investment vehicles. He regularly advises on purchases or sales of entire portfolios as well as strategic investments in, or sale of, investment management companies by strategic investors or principal sellers, or the establishment of new managed account relationships. Clients are international financial institutions, independent investment managers, wealthy individuals and their family offices, sovereign wealth funds and such other persons that are able to deploy, or raise, significant amounts of capital.
