About Us
At Curtis, we believe a diverse workplace makes for a more stimulating environment. We put the emphasis squarely on hiring the best and the brightest from different backgrounds. Over the years, our commitment to diversity and inclusion has given us an edge in servicing clients worldwide and complemented the expansion of our global practice.
Over 30 languages are spoken by Curtis professionals. The firm’s exceptionally international business model means that we literally speak our clients’ language, whether Kazakh, Spanish, Chinese or Arabic. As you would expect, given its international outlook, Curtis encourages the transfer and movement of attorneys between its 19 offices.
Every day, Curtis attorneys work with clients and colleagues from multiple jurisdictions around the world. The benefit goes both ways: individuals benefit from a network of colleagues that goes far beyond their office walls; and the firm develops lawyers with a more rounded, international outlook than at many other law firms.
Our ethos of inclusion has also fostered gender diversity, through associate levels to junior partnership and management ranks. Women are on senior management committees and serve in management partner roles. Curtis’ Women’s Initiative is a monthly development and networking program led by senior female partners for all attorneys in the firm in order to champion gender diversity initiatives and groom next-generation leadership. The LGBTQ+Allies Initiative is another affinity group that meets regularly with the aim of providing a support network and promoting diversity and inclusion at all levels. As a signatory to Equal Representation in Arbitration, Curtis had pledged its commitment to improving the profile and representation of women in international arbitration and promoting the appointment of women arbitrators on an equal opportunity basis. Curtis is also a proud partner of The Appellate Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping law students of color thrive in the area of appellate practice.
The American Lawyer Diversity Scorecard 2020
The firm’s overall policy of diversity and inclusion is evident from its internal and external outreach and training efforts. Under the guidance of partners Nancy Delaney and Elisa Botero, the firm has recently developed a CLE training module in compliance with the New York State CLE Board’s newly required category of credit in Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias. This training session titled “Implicit Bias in the Legal Profession” has been very well received by in-house counsels of several corporates.
