Columbia Law and EDS Invite Partner Juan Perla to Speak on LGBTQ+ Rights and Religious Liberty

Partner Juan Perla has been invited to speak at a seminar entitled “Protecting Religious Liberty and LGBTQ+ Rights,” hosted by the Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) and Columbia Law School. This online seminar will cover the current landscape of religious liberty law in the United States, recent LGBTQ+ religious liberty cases and how religious liberty and LGBTQ+ rights can co-exist in their local contexts. The seminar will be led by Rev. Dr. Patrick S. Cheng, a lawyer and visiting professor of Anglican Studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York, and Elizabeth Reiner Platt, Esq., director of the Law, Rights, and Religion Project at Columbia Law School. Paul Southwick of the ACLU will also join the discussion.

A Curtis team led by Mr. Perla filed a pro bono amicus brief in the Supreme Court in the 303 Creative case on behalf of faith-based organizations and faith leaders who supported the right of same-sex couples to receive equal treatment in the provision of wedding services from businesses owned by individuals with religious objections to same-sex marriage.

You may join the seminar via Zoom on October 5, 2024, from 12:00 to 3:30 pm (EST). For more information, click here.
