Curtis and BIICL Joint Seminar - Are States Still Masters of their Treaties? The Role of Subsequent Agreements and Subsequent Practice in Treaty Interpretation

Curtis and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) are jointly convening a panel focusing on how subsequent agreements and subsequent practice are treated in investor-State dispute settlement and other international courts and tribunals, and exploring the implications of the relevant approaches.

The session will feature Curtis counsel Lise Johnson, Prof. Dapo Akande of Oxford University and Member-Elect of the International Law Commission, Prof. Malgosia Fitzmaurice of Queen Mary University and Sylvie Tabet, General Counsel at Canada’s Trade Law Bureau. Curtis partner Luciana Ricart will moderate the panel and Prof. Yarik Kryvoi, Director of the Investment Treaty Forum at BIICL will provide introductory remarks.

The event will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 5:30 to 7 pm (UK time) in a hybrid format, in person in London and online. The event in London will be followed by a reception. Please visit the BIICL's website for more information and to register (subject to a registration fee).
