Samuel Dangremond Publishes ABA Article: What to Do When Friends or Family Members Ask for Legal Advice

Associate Samuel Dangremond has published an American Bar Association article entitled, “What to Do When Friends of Family Members Ask for Legal Advice.”

Lawyers should be cautious when providing legal advice to friends and family, as it can inadvertently create an attorney-client relationship, leading to ethical and legal risks. Offering even casual advice outside our expertise may breach ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and result in malpractice claims. The article advises young lawyers to refer friends and family to other attorneys when their legal needs exceed the lawyer’s capabilities.
