Renato Treves’s practice focuses on public international law, investor-state disputes and international commercial arbitrations as well as corporate matters involving oil and gas transactions.
Mr. Treves has significant experience in international arbitrations under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He has advised governments and state-owned entities in various fields including oil and gas and public infrastructures and on matters such as enforcement of arbitral awards, expropriation, interpretation of bilateral investment treaties and issues of jurisdiction and admissibility. Consequent to his experience, Mr. Treves has been recognized as a Future Leader by Who's Who Legal for Arbitration in 2024.
Mr. Treves focuses on state-to-state disputes before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and ad hoc arbitral tribunals. He has advised sovereign states on various issues of public international law, including law of the sea, treaty interpretation and international human rights.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Treves interned at the Chamber of Arbitration of Milan (CAM). During his LL.M. studies at New York University School of Law, he worked as a research assistant to Professor José Enrique Alvarez.
