Santiago Corcuera-Cabezut focuses on corporate law, finance and securities, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, corporate governance and international contracts. He also has an active public international law practice, featuring a particular focus on human rights.

Corporate and Finance

Mr. Corcuera-Cabezut has structured and implemented some of the largest securitizations of toll roads in Mexico and has taken part in various private equity investments in Mexican companies. In addition, he has participated in the issuance of debt and equity securities for Mexican companies in the Mexican and international markets. Mr. Corcuera-Cabezut has experience of financings and restructurings of large Mexican corporations, representing both lenders and borrowers and has regularly acts as the secretary of the board of directors of Mexican financial institutions and other publicly traded companies, where he oversees regulatory and corporate governance compliance. With his extensive experience, Mr. Corcuera-Cabezut has been recognized by Who's Who Legal in Mexico 2024 for M&A and Governance.

Human Rights

An active human rights lawyer, he served as Chairman of the Co-ordinating Committee of the Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council from July 2009 to July 2010 and was a member of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances of the United Nations Human Rights Council from 2004 to 2010. He served as Chairman of the Working Group from 2006 to 2009; Member of the Committee against Enforced Disappearances of the United Nations from 2013 to 2017; and Chairman of the Committee from 2016 to 2017; Members of the Consultative Board of the National Counsel to Prevent and Eradicate Discrimination (CONAPRED) from 2013 to 2018.

Thought Leadership

Mr. Corcuera-Cabezut was Dean of the Law School of the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, from 1996-1997, where he also co-ordinated a masters-level program and taught courses in corporate law, constitutional law of human rights, and foreign investments. The Universidad Iberoamericana granted him the 2011 Medal for University Exemplary Services, and the 2018 Gold Medal Ernesto Domínguez Meneses, as a result of 30 years of service as subject professor. He is regularly invited to participate in national and international symposiums, conferences and seminars.
